My Brother Toby

Writing
In High5 we have been practising writing to describe. That means we are trying to get the reader to see what we see, we are using our words to create a picture. We have been adding details to our writing to help make the picture clearer.

Task:
Our job is to do this planning and write our own story about a person in our family that is special to us.

Success Criteria:
  • I planned my writing
  • I added details (what I can seehow my person moveswhat I might hear from my person)
  • I did some fixing by myself

My writing:

Reflection

My favourite part was: drawing Toby with laser eyes.

It was really hard when: I had to find the right letters.

Something that really helped me was: Deb helped me do my work

Something new I learned was: to write more stuff in my story

Kerri Thinks
What a lot of ideas you had about Toby and with Deb's support you were able to share them and record them in your plan. You used your plan to write about Toby over several days. What great learning and practising in writing Isaac - you can hear some sounds in your words and record them by yourself!

Telling my story

On Friday 15th of May we had the Junior School cross-country. We ran hard in the mud and puddles; some of us even ran up and down Cycle Mountain!
We decided to tell our cross-country stories.
With Carolyn we thought about how we can use paint and symbols to share our story. We thought about what we could see, what we could hear, what we could feel and how we felt in our heart. We then told our story in ‘code’.

Success Criteria:
  • Create a code to tell my story
  • Speak clearly and with expression as I tell my story

Reflection

I really like: painting the picture

I think I need to practice: read louder.

Something that really helped me was: Carolyn showing me what to do.

Isaac, you plan your writing with words and pictures. Sometimes you add 2 sentences to your story and I would love to see you do this each day. You are growing in independence as you write and you use your word card to find letters and words all by yourself. You have told your story in words during writing and in paint during art with Carolyn!

Sleep over

Isaac is trying to use lots of different words in his writing. He did a great job matching his picture plan and his story.

More Chips Please

Isaac has included talking in his writing. Look at the detail in Isaac's drawing. Great picture of an open mouth with a chip hanging out.

The writing I like the best

I like this story because I like war stories.

I like this story because I did it all myself.
